The Bamarni sub-district is located at the foot of Mount Metina in the Amadiya district of Duhok Governorate. The region witnessed in Aylul Revolution major battles, most notably the Mount Metina epic. It seems that this epic played a major role in recording historical pages through the heroism and sacrifices of the Peshmerga Forces for the sake of ensuring freedom.

Continuing the struggle, the activities of the Peshmerga were moved to the heart of the state in various parts of Kurdistan during the Gulan Revolution, and guerrilla warfare tactics were able to inflict fatal blows on the military and security institutions of the Ba'ath regime. The Bamarni epic is one of the attacks launched by the Peshmerga Forces on the headquarters and camps of the Iraqi Army in the Bamarni area on the night of 26/27 May 1987, and it was carried out by the Peshmerga Forces belonging to the local committees in Amadiya, Duhok, Sheikhan, and the Popular Resistance.

Although the Peshmerga attack was delayed by one night due to the mercenaries backing down from their promises to provide assistance, they subsequently, with a well-executed Military plan, raided the Iraqi Army Headquarters in the region. In a short period of time, they seized thirteen positions, the Bamarni airport, the Border Guard battalion, and the (140) battalion. They inflicted heavy losses on the Iraqi Army soldiers, which was the killing of more than 100 soldiers and the capturing of (58) others. The spoils in that epic were more than (215) various pieces of weapons and (20150) rounds of various types. It seems that the Peshmerga Forces were not without losses, as two Peshmerga were martyred, namely (Fawzi Ramadan Rasho and Abdul-Sattar Salih Murad), and three others were wounded.

In the battalion headquarters, a sum of money amounting to (32) thousand dinars was seized, and the Peshmerga Forces distributed it to the families of the martyrs. The victory in this epic and dealing a strong blow to the government's military institutions was a witnessed moral victory for the revolution and the Peshmerga Forces, and a strong message to the Ba'athist regime that the revolution is continuing and that it is capable of carrying out larger and wider activities wherever it wishes.
