On the night of March 21, 1947, which is the first day of Newroz, corresponding to the year 1326 solar, a group of Peshmerga forces of Barzani, led by Suleiman Beg Dargali, Zrar Beg Dargali, Ali Agha Khirzoki, Malko Zero, Mullah Shin, and a number of other Peshmerga commanders of Barzani, such as Mullah Ali Zhazhoki and Hasoy Babani, decided to attack the Iranian military base in Qarni. For this purpose, they set off from several directions towards the specified target. Initially, the cavalry of the Sharwiran tribe, who were with the Iranian army, abandoned the hills of Kona Maran and Qarni without a fight and fled towards Balaghchi. As a result, the hills of Kona Maran, which are located between the roads of Khana and Sofian and posed a threat to the Naqadeh road where the Iranian army command center was located at that time, fell into the hands of the Barzanis.

When Zrar Beg Dargali's force reached the Qarni cafe and saw a number of mercenaries, soldiers, and Iranian officers sitting there, the Peshmerga attacked the cafe with hand grenades, killing a number of soldiers and officers and capturing others. In a short time, they took control of the military base in Qarni. The Peshmerga seized all the military base's equipment and forty-one mules. They were also able to load the army's supplies that were in the Qarni mosque onto the mules and three buffalo carts and send them to Alyawa. They also learned that seven army soldiers were hiding in the house of the Qarni Mukhtar, so the Peshmerga went and captured those soldiers as well. Those achievements made by Zrar Beg Dargali's force were part of the crushing blow that Suleiman Beg Dargali dealt to the Iranian army forces on the main road between Naqadeh and Khana, which resulted in the killing of fifty soldiers, the capture of forty others, and sending them to Shno. As a result of this battle, and one day after that incident, the Iranian army again sent a support force to the area consisting of the 22nd Kermanshah Battalion led by Colonel Ghafari, supported by two tanks and a 75mm cannon. They entered the city of Naqadeh and launched a counterattack to retake the hills of Kona Maran, liberate the main road, and deliver supplies to the Sofian camp.

In a fierce battle that erupted between the Barzanis and the Iranian army, the Iranians were able to regain control of the hills of Kona Maran. This victory was so important to the Iranians that the commander of the operation to retake Kona Maran, who was called Colonel Biglari, was promoted to become a division commander. Although the Iranian army was able to capture Kona Maran after carrying out a large-scale operation, the impact of this attack launched by the Barzanis on Kona Maran and Qarni was so great that all Iranian military movements were suspended for a period of time, and the morale of the Peshmerga and their food supplies increased.
