Your telegram 106 on 4/14-15. The situation is extremely dangerous. Clashes occurred between the army and our group in the Bastana area. We contacted the Prime Minister, the R.A.J., and the rest of the concerned officials. They informed us that these measures are purely local in response to the recent incidents. We met with the Mutasarrif and the Commander of the 2nd Division. The officials in Baghdad suggest withdrawing our group from Bastana to a distant place immediately in exchange for the units stopping in their locations as a temporary solution until the arrival of the ministerial committee and to reduce the current tension radically, keeping the officials in the governorate away from the area and not giving the opportunity to the gathered Arab tribes to attack the villages and citizens. The units will withdraw to their places after which calm will return to the area. We hope you will instruct our group to evacuate Bastana and move away and avoid clashing with the military forces, in order to give us the opportunity to solve the problem and contain it without it expanding and leading to a major disaster that will befall Iraq in general. And to preserve the calamities that will befall the villages of this area and its residents. Inform us of your measures.
