Holding the Congress:

In order to reorganize its ranks and act according to the new situation, the Secretariat of the Kurdistan Students Union decided to hold its 12th congress. For this purpose, a preparatory committee was established and July 2007 was set as the date for holding the congress. In a short time, the preparations for the congress were completed by the preparatory committee and members in the branch organizations were elected for the congress, but for several reasons, the congress was not held according to its schedule and was postponed for 2 months(1).

After all preparations, on 23-24 September 2007, the congress was held in the Peshawa Hall in the city of Erbil, with the presence of 410 delegates from all branch organizations, under the slogan (Science and Struggle for a Free Nation - Towards a Bright Future), with the presence of President Masoud Barzani and Adnan Mufti, Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament(2). Fazel Mirani, Secretary of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Nawzad Hadi, Governor of Erbil, the French Ambassador to Iraq, and several other guests began their work(3).

In this congress, some changes were made to the conditions related to the organizations of the Kurdistan Students Union, such as Branch for the provincial center and regional committee for the district branch(4).

After reading the speeches of the participants and preparing the reports of the designated committees, the new Secretariat was elected by the congress members as follows:

1- Renas Cano - Secretary

2- Herman Muhammad Salim – Head of the Organization Department, member of the Secretariat Bureau

3- Jabar Haji Abdullah - Head of the Statistics and Planning Department, member of the Secretariat Bureau.

4- Shaduman Khalil – Head of the Relations Department, member of the Secretariat Bureau

5- Karwan Muhammad Sabir - Head of the Media Department, member of the Secretariat Bureau

6- Irfan Aziz Aziz - Head of the Sports and Arts Department, member of the Secretariat Bureau.

7- Ahmed Bijar Fazel – Head of Student Affairs and Representation, member of the Secretariat Bureau

8- Shukriya Teymur Ahmed – Head of the Cultural and Educational Department, member of the Secretariat Bureau.

9- Shayma Muhammad Zahir - Head of the Financial and Administrative Department, member of the Secretariat Bureau

10- Hogar Bayiz Salih - Member of the Financial Department, Member of the Secretariat Bureau

11- Aryan Salahaddin Asad - Member of the Student Affairs and Representation Department, Member of the Secretariat Bureau

12- Shivan Hamdi Hussein - Member of the Organization Department, Member of the Secretariat Bureau.

Substitute members of the Secretariat:

1- Anas Ayoub Abdulrazaq – Member of the Organization Department, substitute member of the Secretariat Bureau.

2- Omar Bakir Wasu - Member of the Organization Department, substitute member of the Secretariat Bureau.
